I scoured the internet for a few minutes, only to discover that Adbuster's website is the official site for Occupy Wall Street. If you Google Occupy Wallstreet, the unofficial site will come, their .org site. That's just their propaganda fluff. The meat and potatoes of the organization lies at Adbuster's. Adbusters motto is Culture Jam Headquarters. I remember stumbling on Adbuster's in my infinite quest for fresh 1's and 0's.
Official site
Unofficial site
Their Twitter Feed is there, which is hilarious to read. Very sad at the same time. For the shame I feel at how impressionable our younger generation of American's are. And then you stumble upon the grandiouse conspiracy. A conspiracy that originiated in the greedy little minds of my generation. Us stupid black and white kids who needed to have $150 pair of Nike's. You'll never believe it. A shoe campaign. A good old American capitalistic idea of selling overpriced shoes to dumb kids.
Here are their 3 current campaigns: taken from the official site:
Occupy Wall Street - About Us statement
#OCCUPYWALLSTREET is a people powered movement for democracy that began in America on September 17 with an encampment in the financial district of New York City. Inspired by the Egyptian Tahrir Square uprising and the Spanish acampadas, we vow to end the monied corruption of our democracy … join us! We're now in DAY 17.
Buy Nothing Day- Nov. 24th and 25th.
- Give your friends and family a "gift exemption" card
- Ask shoppers "What Would Jesus Buy?"
- Get some friends together (or go solo), dress as santa and meditate in the middle of a busy shopping mall
- Check out buynothingchristmas.org to check out more actions (or inactions) you can take this holiday season
Black Spot - low-top and high-top shoes made by Adbuster's.
branding statement: It's all about opensource. Corporate capitalism gets the boot.
Adbusters has their own line of shoes called blackspot. Their message is down with capitalism, and they are selling shoes. They support the message that capitalism is evil, and they are selling shoes. Oh My God!!! I may have to repeat myself again I'm in such shock.
I don't know where to begin. I'm surprised they know how to tie their own shoes. To buy $70 sneakers from a company that says they are kicking capitalism? If they hate capitalism, why aren't they giving the shoes away!?!? W T F!
This is unreal. A giant shoe campaign. You heard it here first folks!
EDIT: 10/4/11
I just read that the Unions are joining in. From CNN tonight: Transport Workers Union Local 100 spokesman Jim Gannon said the Occupy Wall Street movement, which denounces social inequities in the financial system and draws inspiration from the Arab Spring revolutions in Africa and the Middle East, has advanced issues that unions typically support.
I believe we are witnessing the true end of America. Forget the scare tactics. I'm not selling you anything. I'm sick. I'm gonna go stockpile.
