Few people have heard of ACTA, or the Anti-Counterfeiting Trade Agreement, but the provisions in the agreement appear quite similar to – and more expansive than – anything we saw in SOPA. Worse, the agreement spans virtually all of the countries in the developed world, including all of the EU, the United States, Switzerland and Japan.

Many of these countries have already signed or ratified it, and the cogs are still turning, with the final real fight playing out in the EU parliament.

President Obama signaled Congress this week that he is prepared to share U.S. missile defense secrets with Russia.

In the president’s signing statement issued Saturday in passing into law the fiscal 2012 defense authorization bill, Mr. Obama said restrictions aimed at protecting top-secret technical data on U.S. Standard Missile-3 velocity burnout parameters might impinge on his constitutional foreign policy authority.

As first disclosed in this space several weeks ago, U.S. officials are planning to provide Moscow with the SM-3 data, despite reservations from security officials who say that doing so could compromise the effectiveness of the system by allowing Russian weapons technicians to counter the missile. The weapons are considered some of the most effective high-speed interceptors in the U.S. missile defense arsenal.

There are also concerns that Russia could share the secret data with China and rogue states such as Iran and North Korea to help their missile programs defeat U.S. missile defenses.

US secret Europe bailout over Christmas week

It's nearly impossible to find specifics on this story, but last week, while American's were enjoying the Christmas holidays, our government decided it would be a perfect time to bailout Europe in the form of a currency swap. Yup, we exchanged our Dollars for the Euro. I can't source an exact figure, but rumors are it was around $50 Billion. The Fed chose to do a currency swap as opposed to a 'bailout', so the American people wouldn't become upset. Even though it will devalue our currency as much as a bailout would. The Fed paid for this by printing a lot more money over Christmas.

It did a great deal of lending to foreign banks under various special credit facilities in the aftermath of Lehman's collapse in the fall of 2008. Or, the ECB could lend euros to banks and they could purchase dollars in foreign-exchange markets. The world is, after all, awash in dollars."

Secretary of State Hillary Clinton announced on Capitol Hill Thursday that State Department will dedicate $150 million towards the United States’ efforts in Egypt.

“I’m pleased to announce today that we will be reprogramming $150 million for Egypt to put ourselves in a position to support our transition there and assist with their economic recovery,” she told reporters. “These funds will give us flexibility to respond to Egyptian needs moving forward.

Both party's are extracting tens of trillions of dollars from the US treasury.

Most of the current crop of republican candidates are about as conservative as Chaz Bono.

When Herman flew into the front of the pack, with his straight talk and appeal to the average tax paying American, both sides, republicans and democrats were scared to death to see him come out of nowhere, especially with a tiny campaign budget, funded by the American people, not by special interest groups. The republicans running and the current administration knew that if Herman were to take on Obama in the 2012 debates, Obama would be destroyed by 30 points. It would be a landslide for Cain. Not only would Cain have the conservative Tea Party support, but he would also steal some of Obama's minority vote. Obama would be torn to pieces by Cain, at the voting booth and in the debates.

Neither side wants a man like Herman Cain as President. He's too risky. A man like Cain just might put a stop to the looting of the US treasury. So David Axelrod, with the help of the media, have brought out low life women to accuse him wrong doing and vulgar sexual acts. Even if the accusations were true, and Cain did cheat on his wife, this still doesn't make him any worse than Clinton, or other politicians who are held in such high regard. How about Obama admitting to using cocaine in his 1995 book?

You may ask, what is the motive for this? How could this conspiracy theory possibly be true? There's no way. Watch two minutes of the above video. Ask yourself what is at stake for the current group of politicians. Complete and total access to the US Treasury. The largest pile of wealth the Earth has ever seen. We here the word bailout mentioned almost daily. This word means transferring money out of the US Treasury, into the hands of groups connected with the current crop of politicians. Why is this not apparent to every American? And both sides are putting on a show for us in front of the cameras, pretending to fight and bicker for control, when they are ALL getting filthy rich off this 'two-party' scam.

Republican candidate flavor of the week Newt Gingrich and Nancy Pelosi partnered together in 2008 to take part in the "We Can Solve It" global warming ad campaign sponsored by former Vice President Al Gore's Alliance for Climate Protection.

What do we know as fact about Global warming? We know that politicians are able to hand out tax payer money in the name of green energy to curb global warming. No congressional oversight needed when a project is labeled green energy. Think of the recent Solyndra scandal, the Light Squared scandal, Robert Kennedy, Jr., netted a $1.4 billion bailout for his company, BrightSource from the Energy Dept., the $737 Million loan Nancy Pelosi just gave to her Brother-In-Law Ronald Pelosi, at SolarReserve LLC in Nevada. No oversight. She handed the money to him. We know that green energy costs more money and is less efficient than other forms of energy. We know that Global Warming has not been definitivly proven to be caused by humans. There are an equal number of scientists who believe global warming is a natural cycle, as believe global warming is man-made.

Global warming is a cash grab for politicians, and here we see Newt getting in on the action. In the name of green energy and global warming, politicians use tax-payer money to fund no-bid contracts to hire union workers who pay dues to the unions that funnel the money back to these politicians.

This is one more example of how the Republicans are setting themselves up to lose against Obama in 2012, in order for our 1-party system to continue the looting of the US treasury. BOTH SIDES ARE GETTING FILTHY RICH. NONE OF THEM WANT ANYTHING TO CHANGE!

And today we see another unknown succubus come out of the wood work to accuse Herman Cain of having an affair with him. What is this? Five women within two months? The moment Cain moves to the top of the polls, five women around the country at one time decide to tell their Herman Cain stories. Do you really believe these degenerate women? Why, because Gloria Allred represents them? The Republicans are committing Hari Kari on purpose, and getting rid of the one candidate who is not plugged in to the political machine that's looting the US Treasury.

Occupy Wall Street is the first wave of Obama’s National Security Force.

    Remember back to July 2, 2008? In one of Obama's first major speeches as a President, he said that one of his primary objectives as President is to create a National Security Force that is just as well armed as the United States military, in order to help protect freedom for American's. This speech was not discussed in the media. It was dropped immediately.

    Fast forward to today. It is public record that the Unions and the Obama administration have supported Occupy Wall Street from the beginning. During the movements first week, Speaker of the house Nancy Pelosi, Minority leader Harry Reid along with Obama declared the Occupy movement as a young, spontaneous movement that will be effective in stopping ‘the establishment.” They provide no explanation as to what 'the establishment’ actually means.

    Then unions around the country began mobilizing and purchasing supplies for the protestors, such as tents, signs, weather gear and food. Despite the fact that more than twelve people had died as a result of the Occupy movement, along with property destruction and rioting in cities nationwide, not one criticism from either side of the federal government.

    Now ask yourself; Today, why did the Federal Government remain silent as mobs of protestors tried to shutdown the New York Stock Exchange? I have to repeat myself, because I can’t believe what I just wrote. Occupy Wall Street attempted to shut down the New York Stock Exchange today. The heart of America's financial system. With no action taken by the Federal Government. Why?

    Where is Janet Napolotano during this terrorist act? Not one word from her. She has never let a Mexico-American border dispute go without a press conference. Why wouldn’t the stability of our financial system be a topic worthy of a news conference? Why are federal government agencies such as the FBI and the Department of Homeland Security remaining silent? Why are only local police authorities fighting against these mobs?

    Ready for the answer? Because Occupy Wall Street mobs are the first wave of foot soldiers in Obama's National Security Force. They are meant to stir up rabble, create media diversion, take the focus off the corrupt federal government, and create a populist movement to demonize capitalism.

    You are witnessing step two in the Federal Governments plan to turn America into a socialist country. They want to alter the framework of our constitution, in order for them to gain total access to the largest pile of wealth the world has ever seen. The US treasury.

    Right now billions of dollars in recent scandals are being overshadowed in the media by Occupy protests and sex scandals. News stories about Occupy Wall Street and child rape run on loop 24 hours a day, yet there is hardly any coverage on billions of dollars being shifted around on three solar power scandals, 900 million dollars given to Nancy Pelosi's brother in law at a solar company in Nevada, and other scandals involving tens of billions of dollars. The government is getting away with it because we are focused on are sex scandals at Penn State, and Occupy Wall street protestors.

    The corruption within the Federal Government stems from both sides. The two party system is actually a one party system. Fighting against each other on-camera, while getting filthy rich together off-camera. There is so much more to this story, I will save it for another post.

The House Oversight and Government Reform Committee will investigate the Obama Administration’s shady dealings with the failed Solyndra solar panel company and LightSquared.
The Hill reported:

Rep. Darrell Issa (R-Calif.) said Tuesday that his committee plans to investigate government loan programs to private corporations in light of allegations of improper dealings between the White House and failed energy company Solyndra and wireless start-up LightSquared.
“I want to see when the president and his cronies are picking winners and losers… it wasn’t because there were large contributions given to them,” the chairman of the Oversight and Government Reform Committee said Tuesday morning on C-SPAN.
Issa said the committee was looking at whether it was improper for members of Congress or White House staff to select companies eligible for subsidized government loans when those companies could give campaign donations. Loan programs have been a popular tool to provide funding for popular industries — like tech, green energy, and American auto companies — at more favorable terms than could be secured privately.
The Obama administration has been defending itself against criticism by Republicans that it exerted improper influence to the aid of both companies.

Washington D.C. - U.S. Senator Kirsten Gillibrand (D-NY), announced today with Senators Jon Tester (D-MT) and Debbie Stabenow (D-MI), all long time advocates for increasing government transparency and accountability, that they are working with several of their Senate colleagues in introducing the STOCK Act to prohibit members of Congress from engaging in insider trading. The legislation redefines insider trading to include knowledge gained from Congressional work and service, creates rules and reporting requirements, and requires “political intelligence consultants” to register as lobbyists. Currently, insider trading by members of Congress and their staffs is not prohibited by the Securities Exchange Act or Congressional rules.

“The American people deserve the right to know their lawmakers' only interest is what's best for the country, not their own financial interests,” said Senator Gillibrand, the first member of the House of Representatives to post her official daily schedule, all earmark requests and personal financial disclosure online. “Members of Congress should not have a different set of rules – they should be treated the same as everyone else. This is not a Democratic or Republican idea - it is just a good idea that can create wide bipartisan support. I look forward to working with my Senate colleagues to introduce and pass this common sense measure to increase government transparency and accountability.”

“Members of Congress are public servants who should be serving the public, not themselves,” said Senator Tester, the first U.S. Senator to post his public schedule online and to conduct regular ethics audits of his office. “Our bill is simply a common-sense plan to bring more sunlight to government and to bring accountability to folks who abuse the public’s trust. I expect this measure to win bipartisan support and usher in a new level of transparency in Congress.”

“This law makes crystal clear that Members of Congress must not be exempt from laws everyone else has to follow,” said Senator Stabenow. “Any Member of Congress abusing his or her position for financial gain must be held accountable. Congress needs to fix this glaring inequity immediately.”

The Senators' version of the STOCK Act will do the following:

Ban Insider Trading by Members of Congress
The legislation amends the definition of insider trading to include purchasing assets on the basis of knowledge of a legislative action gained from a member or employee of Congress or by virtue of being a member or employee of Congress. This would require the SEC and CFTC to make regulations to prevent such use and go after cases of insider trading by members of Congress.
Create New Reporting Requirements
The legislation amends Senate rules to make it a violation of the rules to provide information with the understanding that it will be used to buy or sell an asset or to use knowledge gained from Congressional work to buy or sell a stock or commodity. It would also require reporting within 90 days of a member or employee making a transaction of more than $1,000 to provide oversight of possible violations or inappropriate practices.
Require Registration of “Political Intelligence Consultants”
The legislation would require “political intelligence consultants” – individuals contacting legislative and executive branch employees to acquire market intelligence regarding a proposed rule, regulation or legislation – to register as lobbyists, and would make them subject to the same reporting requirements and other restrictions imposed on lobbyists.

Democrats suggest minorities sleep in late and are illiterate

According to Democrats, 25% of black people carry no form of identification, sleep late in the day, and are illiterate. Nearly 200 Democratic lawmakers recently wrote state election officials urging them to not to let the new laws jeopardize voters' rights. These new laws require more states to check ID's to cast a vote, and to close the polls a few hours earlier than usual. Do you understand this means that Democrats believe minorities don't carry ID's, and sleep in too late to make it to the voting booths? Why is this not apparent to you? You don't think this is racist? At first blush, it seems as though they are defending minorities, but that's not what is happening. They are insulting minorities. They are using the guise of helping minorities vote without an ID, because they are too illiterate to obtain an ID. Read the entire story below. Democratic National Committee Chairwoman Debbie Wasserman Schultz (Fla.) on Wednesday night said Republican governors and legislatures are purposefully pressing for the enactment of voter identification laws in order to suppress Democratic voter turnout in the 2012 election.

"State legislatures are attempting to impose voting restrictions that are the modern day equivalent of poll taxes and literacy tests," she said on the House floor. "We cannot allow state legislatures to drag our nation backward in what is nothing more than a political quest to protect their governing majority's interests."

Both sides are awaiting decisions from the U.S. Justice Department on whether new voter ID laws in Texas and South Carolina violate a section of the 1965 Voting Rights Act. Under the law, certain states with a history of discriminatory voting practices must get approval from Justice Department officials before making election changes.

Mississippi is the 31st state to approve a tougher voter ID law during the last decade, according to the National Conference of State Legislatures.

Nearly 200 mostly Democratic lawmakers, including Rep. Bennie Thompson of Bolton, recently wrote state election officials urging them to not to let the new laws jeopardize voters' rights.

Democrats and civil rights groups warn that millions of voters, mostly minorities, may be turned away at the polls next year if they don't have the required ID.

"Voting rights are under attack in America,'' said Rep. John Lewis, D-Ga. The new laws are "slowly robbing Americans of a basic constitutional right,'' he said.

Supporters of the laws, mostly Republicans, say they help prevent fraudulent practices such as casting ballots under the names of dead people.

What is the Chinese strategic rationale to establish military bases in Pakistan? Evidently, the Chinese strategy is to get access to the Arabian Sea and similar to US military presence in the Af- Pak region, to curb Islamic fundamentalism that threatens the stability and security of Xinjiang.

Till now, the Sino-Pakistan military relationship was confined to arms transfers or joint development of weapon systems, which implied an indirect Chinese threat posed through Pakistan to India. But now with Chinese military presence in Pakistan, this amounts to a direct potential threat to India. Evidently, a Chinese presence evokes broader security concerns with regional and extra-regional ramifications.

Now India not only has to cope with the massive development of Chinese military infrastructure along the 4,057-kilometer long Line of Actual Control — especially in the Tibet Autonomous Region— but also a Chinese military presence along the volatile 778-kilometer-long Line of Control between India and Pakistan that re-aligns the strategic environment in South Asia.

Obama stages Occupy singer at APEC meeting

Performing at the conference is Hawaiian singer Matthew Swalinkavich, or Makana, singing “Occupy Oloha” protest song for Barack and Michelle Obama. Makana later spoke with CNN about this brave move to promote socialism. Do you see how ridiculous this is? Makana is supposedly singing this song to oppose Obama and corruption in government, yet Obama and his administration have been supporting the movement since day one. Is America blind? Can't you see these stunts are an attempt by the democrats to give the illusion they are not part of the Occupy movement, when in fact they are using it to motivate their base for 2012. A Hawaiian folk singer played an “Occupy Aloha” protest song at a dinner for world leaders at the APEC Summit.

A popular Hawaiian recording artist turned a top-security dinner of Pacific Rim leaders hosted by President Barack Obama into a subtle protest with a song in support of the “Occupy” movement.

Makana, who goes by one name, was enlisted to play a luau, or Hawaiian feast, Saturday night for leaders assembled in Obama’s birthplace Honolulu for an annual summit that is formulating plans for a Pacific free-trade pact.

But in the midst of the dinner on the resort strip Waikiki Beach, he pulled open his jacket to reveal a T-shirt that read “Occupy with Aloha,” using the Hawaiian word whose various meanings include love and peace. He then sang a marathon version of his new song “We Are The Many.”

Bob Dole, the 1996 Republican presidential candidate, has been on the Republic of China in-exile payroll as a foreign agent since 1998. Hired to gain access to the White House and Congress for the exiled Chinese Nationalist government, Dole has also been a mouthpiece for the ROC in the American media.

Dole’s latest paid political announcement is a guest editorial in the Washington Times where he defends the controversial Economic Cooperation Framework Agreement recently signed between the Kuomintang government of Ma Ying-jeou and the People’s Republic of China which claims Taiwan rightfully belongs to China.

Taiwan has been under occupation rule of the Nationalist Chinese since October 1945 when the United States Navy landed the KMT troops to process surrendering Japanese soldiers. The United States, named the “principal occupying Power” of Taiwan in the 1952 San Francisco Peace Treaty, has allowed the ROC to govern Taiwan for six decades instead of permitting self-determination for the island residents.

Dole, as a former powerful U.S. Senator, has long been friendly with the exiled Chinese regime and has encouraged the “strategic ambiguity” that defines Taiwan’s international status. Last year the District of Columbia U.S. Court of Appeals described the people of Taiwan as ”stateless” and living in a U.S. imposed “political purgatory” that adversely effects the daily life of 23 million islanders.

Dole’s latest paid pronouncement leaves little doubt that self-determination for the people of Taiwan is not part of his lobbying contract. Although the Washington Times editorial identified Dole as a former senator and presidential candidate, it did not disclose his role as a foreign agent working for the Washington law firm Alston & Bird.

“”Some critics of the agreement argue that the ECFA will overly expand Taiwan’s economic dependence on China in ways that threaten the country’s politico-military system (in other words, de facto sovereignty). In my view, the globalization of the economy makes the ECFA necessary and thereby outweighs these concerns.”

According to Legal Times the former Republican leader was paid $30,000 a month to provide “strategic advice and counseling” to his ROC paymasters.

Along the way Dole changed law firms and brought his Chinese business to Alston & Bird where he now brings in $25,000 per month to “set up meetings with U.S. lawmakers” according to the Media General News Service.

Dole’s editorial touting the ECFA does not mention the concerns of thousands of Taiwanese who took to the streets last week to oppose the ECFA and ask for a referendum.

Former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi bought stock in initial public offerings (IPOs) that earned hefty returns while she had access to insider information that would have been illegal for an average citizen to trade with – even though it’s perfectly legal for elected officials, CBS’s "60 Minutes" reported Sunday night.

In a piece relying on data collected from the conservative Hoover Institution, "60 Minutes" revealed that elected officials like Pelosi are exempt from insider trading laws – regulations that carry hefty prison sentences and fines for any other citizen who trades stocks with private information on companies that can affect their stock price.

In the case of elected officials – this secret information ranges from timely details on lucrative federal contracts to legislation that can cause companies’ stocks to rise and fall dramatically.

“Undisturbed by a potential conflict of interest the Pelosis purchased 5,000 shares of Visa at the initial price of $44 dollars. Two days later it was trading at $64. The credit card legislation never made it to the floor of the House,” Steve Kroft of "60 Minutes" reported.

Kroft confronted Pelosi at a regular press conference after she declined an interview.

Kroft: Madam Leader, I wanted to ask you why you and your husband back in March of 2008 accepted and participated in a very large IPO deal from Visa at a time there was major legislation affecting the credit card companies making its way through the —through the House.

Nancy Pelosi: But —

Kroft: And did you consider that to be a conflict of interest?

Pelosi: The — y — I — I don't know what your point is of your question. Is there some point that you want to make with that?

Kroft: Well, I — I — I guess what I'm asking is do you think it's all right for a speaker to accept a very preferential, favorable stock deal?

Pelosi: Well, we didn't.

Kroft: You participated in the IPO. And at the time you were speaker of the House. You don't think it was a conflict of interest or had the appearance--

Pelosi: No, it was not —

Kroft: — of a conflict of interest?

Pelosi: —it doesn't — it only has appearance if you decide that you're going to have — elaborate on a false premise. But it — it — it's not true and that's that.

Kroft: I don't understand what part's not true.

Pelosi: Yes sir. That — that I would act upon an investment.

The Hoover Institution’s Peter Schweizer stressed that what Pelosi did was completely legal.

“There are all sorts of forms of honest grafts that congressmen engage in that allow them to become very, very wealthy. So it's not illegal, but I think it's highly unethical, I think it's highly offensive, and wrong,” he told Kroft.

“… Insider trading on the stock market. If you are a member of Congress, those laws are deemed not to apply,” Schweizer added. “The fact is, if you sit on a healthcare committee and you know that Medicare, for example, is — is considering not reimbursing for a certain drug that's market moving information. And if you can trade stock on — off of that information and do so legally, that's a great profit making opportunity. And that sort of behavior goes on.”

Pelosi’s office issued a statement Sunday saying, “It is very troubling that ‘60 Minutes’ would base their reporting off of an already-discredited conservative author who has made a career out of attacking Democrats.”

Schweizer’s books include “Do as I Say (Not as I Do): Profiles in Liberal Hypocrisy,” and “Architects of Ruin,” according to Schweizer’s page on the Hoover Institution website.

Man shot dead at Occupy Oakland plaza

OAKLAND, Calif. - A man has died after being shot just outside the Oakland encampment that anti-Wall Street protesters have occupied for the last month. Fatalities

Oakland Police Chief Howard Jordan says the victim was pronounced dead at a local hospital Thursday evening, less than two hours after two groups of men got into a fight near the Occupy Oakland camp on a plaza near City Hall.

Jordan says no suspects have been identified. He asked members of the public participating in the protest who may have taken photographs or video that captured the shooting to contact authorities.

The chief says investigators do not yet know if the men in the fight were associated with Occupy Oakland. But protest organizers say they weren't.

The shooting happened just before 5 p.m. on the edge of the plaza outside Oakland City Hill. The Occupy Oakland encampment sits in the middle of the plaza.

Paramedics on the scene were tending the bleeding man, whose condition wasn't immediately known as it was earlier reported. Police were interviewing witnesses and trying to contain a crowd of protesters who had tried to prevent television cameramen from taking video.

A woman from the encampment, Barucha Peller, told CBS station KPIX San Francisco: "The only direct Occupy Oakland involvement was in order to provide emergency first-aid services."

The shooting comes a day after a group of Oakland city and business leaders held a news conference demanding the removal of the encampment, saying that it has hurt downtown businesses and has continued to pose safety concerns.

Many protesters fear police will eventually move forward with another early morning raid to remove them. A tear gas-filled clash between demonstrators and police on Oct. 25 resulted in more than 100 arrests and left an Iraq War vet with a serious brain injury.

Mayor Jean Quan allowed the protesters to return to the encampment the day after that raid. The camp has since grown to about 180 tents.

But tensions and safety concerns have resurfaced in recent says, and on Wednesday, Quan asked members of the camp to show respect to the people of Oakland by peacefully leaving.

Earlier Thursday, a man was shot and killed at the Occupy Burlington protest in Vermont. Fellow protesters indicated that the gunshot appeared to be self-inflicted.

Democrat Minnesota Representative Keith Ellison is proposing a bill to push for voting without an ID in all 50 states.Voting without photo ID pushed for all 50 states. Just walk into a polling location, register and cast your ballot immediately.

A Minnesota congressman has proposed federal legislation that would impose his state's type of voter registration – which leads the nation in voter fraud cases – on the other 49 states, according to critics who have launched online campaigns to make people aware of the dangers of Rep. Keith Ellison's H.R. 3316 and its companion H.R. 3317.

"Our votes control trillions of public dollars, yet Ellison would have us believe nobody would ever steal them. We can trust everybody, right?" said a commentary posted on the Election Integrity Watch site.

"Would you keep your money in a bank that allowed people to make withdrawals without checking their identity and verifying that they are entitled to the money?" the site wondered.

In a commentary promoting his H.R. 3316, which would banish all photo identification requirements, and H.R. 3317, which would allow people to walk into a polling location, register and vote immediately, Ellison said his intent is to curb "voter suppression."

"The Same Day Registration Act would require states to provide for same day voter registration for a federal election. The Voter Access Protection Act would make sure election officials cannot require photo identification in order to cast a vote or register to vote," he said.

Iran using Western tunneling technology to move nuclear facilities underground

Speculation about whether Israel will strike Iran increased with yesterday's release of a United Nations’ International Atomic Energy Agency report, which says that Iran has been trying to develop the capabilities to produce an atomic bomb small enough to put on a missile capable of hitting Israel.

Iran is following the lead of China and Russia in protecting its Natanz and Qom nuclear facilities by moving them underground, Defense Intelligence Agency Director General Ronald Burgess told a Senate Committee in February.

“Buried, hardened facilities and improved air defenses are key elements of Iran’s extensive program to protect its nuclear infrastructure from destruction,” Burgess said.

“The spread of western tunneling technology and equipment is contributing to a rise in construction by countries and organizations that have not previously used modern techniques,” he said.

Israeli Defense Minister Ehud Barak said yesterday in an interview with Israel Radio that Israel “has not yet decided to embark on any operation” against Iran.

Barak, in a June 2, 2009, meeting with U.S. lawmakers, “estimated a window between six and 18 months from now in which stopping Iran from acquiring nuclear weapons might still be viable,” he was quoted as saying in a WikiLeaks-released State Department cable.

“After that, any military solution would result in unacceptable collateral damage,” Barak was quoted as saying.

High stepping my way through the sewers of the Occupy Forum, I stumbled on two very interesting articles. Both of them discuss how the Occupy movement is being run from small rooms in NoHo New York. The reporters here were blind-folded before being taken this small apartment overlooking the streets. Without further ado...

For reasons not immediately apparent to us, Occupy Wall Street protesters apparently blindfold journalists before taking them to their secret media operations room in NoHo and require them to keep its exact location a secret. Andrew Katz, writing for the Brooklyn Ink, profiles some of the major players in Occupy Wall Street's media operations, and in his piece, he notes the oddly Batcave-like means the protesters employ:

So few people, both in and outside the movement, appear to know about the off-site media operations center that when journalists are granted access, they are blindfolded with a maroon scarf and told the precise location is off the record.
Ten minutes later, the cab stops outside a rundown building in NoHo. Up the stairs and down a hallway, three men and a woman, all in their late twenties and thirties, are fixated on the monitors in front of them. They’re using, at turns, a third-party Twitter application or running a live feed from Oakland, Calif., that’s streaming a late-night clash between police and protestors.

Eric Holder lied under oath about Fast & Furious

Attorney General Eric Holder said Tuesday that he has not spoken with the family of Border Patrol agent Brian Terry, who was killed in December by a group of assailants using at least two weapons tied to "Operation Fast and Furious," but he "certainly regrets" what happened.

Not offering an outright apology when prompted by a Republican senator to offer one, Holder, who was appearing Tuesday before Congress for the first time since his controversial testimony in May over the gun-running program, said he "can only imagine" the Terry family's pain. But, he said, it's "not fair to assume" that mistakes made during the botched operation "directly led" to Terry's death.

Holder was on the hot seat at a Senate Judiciary Committee hearing in which he insisted that testimony he gave at his last appearance was accurate, but acknowledged that initial statements by the Justice Department after the issue became public were not.

The first nationwide test of the Emergency Alert System (EAS) will take place on November 9, 2011 at 2 p.m. (Eastern Standard Time).
Reminder: Stations are prohibited from broadcasting the EAS tones or attention signal except during actual EAS activations, including the Nationwide EAS Test on November 9th and other EAS tests. Broadcasting the tones or signal during news stories or other programming is a violation of the FCC�s rules, and could pose a public danger because rebroadcast of the tones could trigger a false alert from EAS equipment that picks up such a rebroadcast. Please see this FCC Public Notice for further information.
Update, November 3 at 11:20 a.m.: NAB has confirmed with the Federal Emergency Management Agency and the Federal Communications Commission that the nationwide test of the Emergency Alert System has been shortened to approximately 60 seconds. Please update your communications to reflect this change. Please consult this FCC Public Notice for further information, and please note that the FCC Nationwide EAS Test Handbook linked below has been revised as of November 3rd to reflect this change. All radio and television stations must participate in the EAS Test.
The test will be conducted by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and the Federal Communications Commission (FCC). The test will start at approximately 2 p.m. (Eastern Standard Time) and will last approximately 60 seconds.
The purpose of the test is to help government organizations and EAS Participants (radio and TV broadcast stations, cable operators and satellite radio and TV) to determine the reliability of the EAS system. It is not a "pass-fail" exercise. However, the first National EAS Test will serve as a benchmark for measuring the effectiveness of the EAS system, and for improvements in the EAS system going forward. FEMA and the FCC intend to conduct National EAS Tests on an annual basis (although not always on November 9).
Broadcasters are the "backbone" of the EAS system. It is critical that radio and television stations put their best foot forward during the test. Therefore, all radio and television stations should prepare in advance for the National EAS Test.
To that end, here is a simple checklist of useful, important information to assist your station during every phase of the test.

Pre-Test

Check your EAS equipment. Stations should immediately check the functionality of their EAS equipment (encoder/decoder, end-to-end connections).
Check your EAS Sources. Stations should immediately review the sources they monitor for EAS messages, such as Primary Entry Point (PEP) stations, Local Primary (LP-1 or LP-2) stations or National Public Radio's EAS Cue (Squawk) Channel. Stations should check their ability to receive messages from these sources and retransmit those messages.
Local Coordination. Stations should coordinate with their local EAS Participant community (such as your state broadcasters association) for any locally-relevant information related to the nationwide EAS test.
FEMA EAS Toolkit. FEMA has produced an EAS Test Toolkit that provides useful information on the history and role of EAS, and key messages, talking points, and FAQs regarding the nationwide EAS test. Click here to download the toolkit.
Public Awareness. The broadcasting industry has pledged to help increase public awareness of the nationwide EAS test. NAB has worked with FEMA and the FCC on the production and distribution of public service announcements (PSAs) designed to promote awareness.

Television EAS Slide. The text crawl that is automatically generated by your EAS equipment when it receives the live code used for the National EAS Test will not indicate that the November 9 event is only a test. Television stations should insert a background slide behind the crawl clearly indicating that this is only a test. Stations may tailor their own graphic using similar text if desired.

Therefore, NAB has worked with FEMA and the FCC to design on-screen language for television stations to insert during the nationwide EAS test. Television stations should either insert this slide or tailor their own visual slide using the text indicated on this slide.
Television Pre-Test Messaging. Because of the unique nature of this first-ever, federal-level Nationwide EAS Test, television stations are strongly encouraged to provide viewers with an additional last-minute reminder of the test. To that end, all television stations should run a tailored PSA or crawl for at least 30 to 120 seconds immediately preceding the Nationwide EAS Test. Such messaging could contain language such as the following:

"At 2:00 p.m. Eastern time today, there will be a nationwide test of the Emergency Alert System. THIS IS ONLY A TEST. There is no actual emergency. Our programming will resume when the test concludes in approximately 60 seconds."

Post-Test

Reporting. As mentioned above, all EAS Participants must report to the FCC on the results of their participation in the nationwide EAS test within 45 days after the test, including whether, and from whom, they received the alert message and whether they rebroadcast it. November 7, 2011 (MUNDELEIN, Ill.) (WLS) -- Sharon Bialek, who lives in suburban Mundelein, said Republican presidential candidate Herman Cain reached under her skirt 14 years ago when she was asked him about a job.

In this Intelligence Report: Who is Sharon Bialek? The Chicago-area woman has an extensive corporate and personal history in the area going back to the early 1990s.

It was her hope for a new job that Bialek says brought her to Herman Cain that day in 1997. Bialek's resume and a trail of public records indicates that changing jobs has been a regular occurrence for the Chicagoan. She has worked for at least nine different employers over the past 17 years and appears to have struggled financially.

The public record on Bialek begins in 1991 when she filed personal bankruptcy for the first time while living in Des Plaines.

Between 1993 and 1996 Bialek worked for four different companies in promotion and marketing positions.

In 1996, and part of 1997, Bialek was at the National Restaurant Association. After being let go from that job in mid-1997, she says that she went to Washington, D.C., to meet with Cain, president of the association, because she needed a job.

In 1999, Bialek's son Nicholas was born and a paternity lawsuit was filed by the father, a media executive.

In 2001 came Bialek's second personal bankruptcy, filed after sizable legal bills. That year she was hired by WGN radio where she worked until 2004 when she took a marketing job and then a job at WCKG radio.

Along the way, according to her attorney, Bialek also held positions with Revlon and Easter Seals.
Bialek currently lives in Mundelein with fiance Mark Harwood.

"She's of the same political persuasion as Herman Cain," Harwood said. "There was no money on the table to go and have an interview. This is truly about an American girl who's got a big heart and wants to do the right thing."

Bill Clinton says he can “sympathize” with the “resentments” that are fueling the Occupy Wall Street protests that have sprouted up across the country.

“They have an amorphous set of resentments for which I sympathize,” Clinton said in an interview with USA Today. “I don’t think Americans can continue this level of income inequality.”

But the former president’s advice to the Occupiers is that they need a clearer political agenda and that they should communicate more with political leaders.

“They need to have some idea of what they want the country to do. If I were in their position, I would invite politicians down to talk to them. I’d invite [New York] Gov. [Andrew] Cuomo down to talk to me. I’d invite the mayor down to talk to me in New York,” Clinton told the publication.

The 42nd president said the state of the country is currently so bad that it “has a disturbing feel, like the bad recession we had at the end of the 19th century, when there was a lot of partisan discord.”

But still, Clinton — who in a new book that will hit the bookstores on Tuesday warns that President Barack Obama has a “tough hand to play” in dealing with lawmakers – told USA Today that the president could still win a second term in the Oval Office despite the state of the nation’s economy.

“That’s what the Republicans are banking on,” he said about predictions that Obama won’t be able to win re-election given the country’s high unemployment rate.

He added, “But the American people have a funny way of figuring. If they decide that the unemployment rate is that high because the Congress refused to work with the president and their numbers remain markedly lower than his, he might win anyway. I still think he’s in pretty good shape.”

HAVANA -- For the first time in a half-century, Cubans will be allowed to buy and sell real estate openly, bequeath property to relatives without restriction and avoid forfeiting their homes if they abandon the country.

The highly anticipated new rules instantly transform islanders' cramped, dilapidated homes into potential liquid assets in the most significant reform yet adopted by President Raul Castro since he took over the communist country from his brother in 2008.

But plenty of restrictions remain.

Cuban exiles continue to be barred from owning property on the island, though they can presumably help relatives make purchases by sending money. And foreigners can also hold off on dreams of acquiring a pied-a-terre under the Caribbean sun, since only citizens and permanent residents are eligible.

The law, which takes effect Nov. 10, limits Cubans to owning one home in the city and another in the country, an effort to prevent speculative buying and the accumulation of large real estate holdings. While few Cubans have the money to start a real estate empire, many city dwellers have struggled over the years to maintain title to family homes in the countryside, and the new law legalizes the practice.

The change follows October's legalization of buying and selling cars, though with restrictions that still make it hard for ordinary Cubans to buy new vehicles. The government has also allowed citizens to go into business for themselves in a number of approved jobs - everything from party clowns to food vendors and accountants - and permitted them to rent out rooms and cars.

While Castro has stressed that there will be no departure from Cuba's socialist model, he has also pledged to streamline the state-dominated economy by eliminating hundreds of thousands of state jobs and ending generous subsidies the state can no longer afford.

Cuba's government employs about 80 percent of the workforce, paying wages of just $20 a month in return for free education and health care, and nearly free housing, transportation and basic foods.

Economists and Cuba experts say the new property law will have a profound impact on people's lives, though probably will not be enough by itself to transform the island's limping economy.

"This is a very positive step in the right direction toward greater economic freedom and individual and family rights of private property," said Ted Henken, a professor at Baruch College in New York who has extensively studied Cuba's economy. "It will immediately increase the personal wealth of millions of Cubans."

Omar Everleny Perez, lead economist at Havana University's Center for Cuban Economic Studies, said legalization of the sale of cars and property could help Cubans who want to go into business for themselves acquire seed money.

"These are small things, but they point us toward an economy that is more normal compared to the rest of the world," he said.

According to the Official Gazette, a government publication that disseminates new laws, the new system will eliminate the need for approval from a state housing agency, meaning that from now on, sales and exchanges will only need the seal of a notary.

Cubans will also be allowed to inherit property from relatives, even if they don't live together, and they will be able to take title of property of relatives or others who emigrate.

Previously, such properties could be seized by the state. One caveat contained in the new law is that the government retains the right to nullify any sale if it finds that it resulted in someone being left homeless.

Cuban exiles in South Florida - many of whom lost family homes when they left the island - were ho-hum about the changes.

"How in the world are they going to establish the title for these homes?" asked Jorge Amaro, a retired realtor in Miami.

Amaro said he came to the U.S. from Cuba in 1961 at age 13 on the so-called Peter Pan flights. His parents later joined him, leaving behind the family's six-bedroom home on one of Havana's main boulevards.

"For instance, the property that my family had, who owns it? They're going to have to pick an arbitrary date to decide ownership," he said.

The ban on property sales was probably the most resented among the many restrictions in Cuba's state-dominated economy.

The old regulations took effect in stages over the first years after Fidel Castro came to power in 1959, and they have remained in force even as Cuba opened its economy - albeit slightly - following the collapse of the Soviet Union.

For decades, Cubans could only exchange property through complicated barter arrangements or through even murkier black-market deals where thousands of dollars change hands under the table, with no legal recourse if transactions go bad.

Some Cubans entered into sham marriages to make deed transfers easier. Others made deals to move into homes ostensibly to care for an elderly person living there, only to inherit the property when the person died.

Even divorce hasn't necessarily meant separation in Cuba, where estranged couples have often been forced to live together for years while they worked out alternative housing.

The new law requires that all real estate transactions be made through Cuban bank accounts so that they can be better regulated, and it sets a tax rate of 8 percent of the assessed value - split equally by buyer and seller. There is no mention of any capital gains tax, a boon to property owners.

At an intersection in central Havana that for decades has served as the city's underground real estate bazaar, people said the tax rate seemed reasonable in the abstract, but it will depend greatly on how authorities end up valuing the properties.

"This was necessary, and it will bring results," said Maria Fernandez, who has been arranging home swaps for seven years as an unofficial real estate broker. "It'll help us move forward and change many lives."

MF Global, a major financial derivatives broker run by former New Jersey Governor Jon Corzine, is being investigated by regulators after millions of dollars of customers’ money disappeared in recent days, the New York Times reports.

The firm collapsed after Corzine, a prominent Democratic fundraiser who had been mentioned as a possible replacement for Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner, bought up big holdings of debt from economically troubled European countries such as Portugal, Italy, Ireland and Spain at a discount. When Wall Street found out about the deal following a regulatory filing by the firm, investors worried MF Global had taken on too much risk.

By Sunday evening, the firm, which had lost 67 percent of its market value in five days and had been downgraded to junk status, prepared to file for bankruptcy while selling off some of its remaining assets. A rival firm, Connecticut-based Interactive Brokers, was set to buy large portions of MF Global.

The deal quickly fell apart. Interactive Brokers realized MF Global was missing hundreds of millions of dollars of investors’ money. As much as $700 million is not where it should be, either as the result of sloppy bookkeeping on the part of MF Global or something more intentional and perhaps sinister. Federal regulators had apparently been concerned about the firm’s performance for some time, and MF Global confirmed to the Times that the Community Futures Trading Commission and the Securities and Exchange Commission had “expressed their grave concerns” about the firm’s viability.
MF Global filed for bankruptcy Monday morning.

Amid applause and tears, 205 immigrants from 35 countries took their oath of allegiance to their adoptive country last week and became U.S. citizens in a naturalization ceremony at the Miami office of U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services.
The ceremony was no different from many others that have taken place there. Yet the new citizens are part of an increase in citizen applications in South Florida and the rest of the country due to the growing interest among immigrants in the 2012 presidential election, immigration officials say.
“The number of naturalizations always goes up when there is an upcoming presidential election,” said Linda Swacina, USCIS district director in Miami. “I remember that for 2008 we had more naturalizations than in previous years. I believe voting is the primary reason for becoming citizens.”
Swacina’s analysis is confirmed by taking a glimpse at annual immigration statistics published by the Department of Homeland Security, which shows that the number of naturalizations increases regularly almost every four years.
Swacina said that in the district she supervises in South Florida, about 100,000 naturalizations were conducted in 2008, compared to the local annual average of 50,000. Immigration officials said that the agency’s internal figures also show an increase in the number of naturalizations nationwide with a preliminary figure of 749,087 during the 2011 fiscal year compared to 676,054 in 2010.
Officials say they expect the number of naturalizations to continue growing as the 2012 election gets closer.
Though the majority of new citizens interviewed after the naturalization ceremony said the election had nothing to do with their decision to become citizens, immigration activists expect many immigrants, primarily Hispanics, to seek their citizenship in order to vote in 2012 as the controversy over immigration reform remains unresolved.
Though President Barack Obama promised immigration reform in his campaign for the White House, he has recently said that without Republican support it will not be possible to legalize millions of undocumented immigrants.
The increase in naturalizations was disclosed in August in the immigration statistics yearbook issued by the Department of Homeland Security. According to the yearbook, the number of foreigners seeking citizenship in the 2010 fiscal year grew after a dramatic plunge in applications primarily due to the 2007-2008 economic crisis, which prompted many immigrants to postpone their plans to become U.S. citizens.
The yearbook also shows increases or numbers relatively stable in other important areas of immigration, such as asylum requests, residence and deportations. The Immigration and Custom Enforcement reported on Oct. 18 that in the 2011 fiscal year it deported 396,906 foreigners, the highest number of deportations in the history of the agency.
Of the total number of deportations, ICE said, almost 55 percent had criminal records either for felonies or misdemeanors. It is the first time that the number of deported criminals in a fiscal year exceeds the number of immigrants deported without a criminal record.
Though the decrease in the number of naturalizations after 2008 has been attributed partly on the economic crisis, the registered increase in 2010 is due to the interest of many immigrants in becoming citizens before the election.
Even though the majority of naturalized immigrants last week said they would register to vote, the election per se did not influence their decision to seek citizenship. In many cases, the objective was to have access to more work opportunities.
“You have to take the opportunities this country offers to American citizens,” said Marvin Parrales, from Nicaragua, one of the 205 new naturalized citizens.
Parrales is an automobile mechanic and dreams of becoming an aviation mechanic. To him, the possibility of better job opportunities was one of the main reasons to become a citizen, not voting.
“Aviation has always been my dream,” he said. “The election had nothing to do with my decision to become citizen. That is just a coincidence.”
Parrales was one of 20 Nicaraguans who became citizens that day.
Maury Aguilar, from Venezuela, also said that the election had nothing to do with her decision and that her goal is to become a dentist.
“From now on, everything is a new world,” Aguilar said.
Immigration officials encouraged the new citizens to register to vote.
“Among the very important rights you acquired today when you took your oath is the right to vote,” Swacina said in her speech during last week’s ceremony. “Citizenship is a privilege that offers you the extraordinary opportunity of being part of the process of governing this great nation.”

Will Israel strike Iran?

Benjamin Netanyahu, the Israeli prime minister, is seeking cabinet support for a military strike on Iran, Haaretz newspaper has reported after days of speculation on plans for such an attack.

The report, citing a senior Israeli official, said Mr Netanyahu was working with Ehud Barak, the defence minister, to win support from sceptical members of the cabinet who oppose attacking Iranian nuclear facilities.

Israel test-fired a ballistic missile from a military base in central Israel on Wednesday, Israel Radio said.

The report said the launch was carried out from the Palmachim facility. It quoted a Defence Ministry statement as saying the launch was aimed at testing the missile's propulsion system. Israel has Jericho missiles widely believed to be capable of carrying nuclear warheads.

The reports of Mr Netanyahu pushing for a military strike on Iran came after days of renewed public discussion among Israeli commentators about the possibility that the Jewish state would take unilateral military action against Iran.

Haaretz said that Mr Netanyahu and Mr Barak had already scored a significant win by convincing Foreign Minister Avigdor Lieberman to throw his support behind a strike.

But the newspaper cited the senior Israeli official as saying there was still "a small advantage" in the cabinet for those opposed to an attack.

Among those still opposed, Haaretz said, are interior minister Eli Yishai of the ultra-Orthodox Shas party, intelligence minister Dan Meridor, strategic affairs minister and Netanyahu confidant Moshe Yaalon, and finance minister Yuval Steinitz.

Media reports say any strike is also opposed by army chief Benny Gantz, the head of Israel's intelligence agency Tamir Pardo, the chief of military intelligence Aviv Kochavi and the head of Israel's domestic intelligence agency Yoram Cohen.

Iran is on alert and will "punish" any Israeli strike against it, its armed forces chief of staff, General Hassan Firouzabadi, warned later on Wednesday.

"We consider any threat - even those with low probability and distant - as a definite threat. We are on full alert," he said, quoted by Fars news agency.

"With the right equipment, we are ready to punish them and make them regret (committing) any mistake," he said.

On Monday, Mr Barak was forced to deny media reports that he and Netanyahu had already decided to launch an attack against Iran over the opposition of military and intelligence chiefs.
"It doesn't take a great genius to understand that in 2011 in Israel, two people cannot decide to act by themselves," he said.

"There are at the ministry of defence and the prime minister's office thousands of pages of minutes of the discussions that have been had in the presence of dozens of officials and ministers," he added.
On Tuesday, Mr Barak appeared to suggest in remarks to parliament that Israel could be forced to act alone against Iran.

"A situation could be created in the Middle East in which Israel must defend its vital interests in an independent fashion, without necessarily having to reply on other forces, regional or otherwise," he said.
Haaretz said no decision had yet been taken on any military strike, and that a November 8 report from the International Atomic Energy Agency nuclear watchdog would have a "decisive effect" on the decision-making process.

The newspaper also cited Western experts as saying any attack on Iran during the winter would be almost impossible because of thick cloud cover, raising questions about when any military action might be launched.

Israel has consistently warned all options remain on the table when it comes to Iran's nuclear programme, which the Jewish state and much of the international community believe masks a drive for nuclear weapons.

Iran denies those charges and says its nuclear programme is for civilian energy purposes only.
The renewed speculation about a potential attack on Iran, including public debate about the wisdom of any strike, was strongly criticised by several Israeli ministers, who called the discussion irresponsible.
Justice minister Dan Meridor, speaking to Israeli daily Maariv, called the public debate "nothing less than a scandal."

"Not every issue is a matter for public debate," he warned. "The public elected a government to make decisions about things like this in secret. The public's right to know does not include the debate about classified matters like this."

What if we cry wolf and no one is listening?

Everything, it seems, has become politicized in our society. And now my fear is that our Emergency Alert System will become politicized. This valuable system has for decades been an effective tool to alert consumers about impending tornadoes, flooding, hurricanes, and myriad other disasters. When consumers hear that annoying tone on the radio, they sit up and pay attention.
The president announced this week that he will do the first presidential EAS alert in history. He will break into your broadcast and offer a presidential message.
Why?
In the history of the EAS, no president has broken in to make an announcement. President George W. Bush did not feel it necessary to do a nationwide alert on EAS when we were under attack in 2001.

Why does this president feel the need to force himself on all radio listeners and do the first presidential test of the alert system?
Politics, that's why. The president is in campaign mode and is interested in rebuilding his ratings in the polls, and I suspect he feels this is a good way to force his voice upon all Americans listening to the radio.
It'’s a giant mistake for ANY president to place his or her voice on the system as a test. There are very few instances when a message from the president himself is necessary. Yes, if there is a national emergency, a government official may need to speak to the masses. But why the president? And why do this now?
If you think I'm being political, I'm not. No president should be doing this.

The FCC is unanimously behind this, and it's something many state broadcasters' associations have been pushing for. So why am I so dead set against this concept? First, it's open to abuse. No politician can resist the opportunity to try to make him- or herself look good. Do you think any president will resist that impulse when they have the ears of everyone listening to the radio? What if a president in office decides to declare more emergencies -- that is, more excuses to take over radio?
And there's another danger: Presidents are polarizing figures. A lot of Americans may hear the president's voice and simply turn off the radio. It's like the child who cried wolf. If the president is giving a message -- and they don't like the president -- the next time they hear that EAS signal (another test?), they won't be listening. What if that’s the time there's a real emergency and people need to listen?

I strongly urge the White House not to do the presidential test. Don't desensitize listeners to EAS. There are other ways to make sure it's working.

Libya's new leaders favor polygamy

It was just a passing reference to marriage in a leader’s soberly delivered speech, but all week it has unsettled women in Libya as well as allies abroad.

In announcing the success of the Libyan revolution and calling for a new, more pious nation, the head of the interim government, Mustafa Abdul-Jalil, also seemed to clear the way for unrestricted polygamy in a Muslim country where it has been limited and rare for decades.

It looked like a sizable step backward for women at a moment when much here – institutions, laws, social relations – is still in play after the end of Moammar Gadhafi’s 42 years of authoritarian rule.

In his speech, Abdul-Jalil declared that a Gadhafi-era law that placed restrictions on multiple marriages, which is a tenet of Islamic law, or Shariah, would be done away with. The law, which stated that a first wife had to give permission before others were added, for instance, had kept polygamy rare here.

“This law is contrary to Shariah and must be stopped,” Abdul-Jalil told the crowd, vowing that the new government would adhere more faithfully to Shariah. The next day he reiterated the point to reporters at a news conference: “Shariah allows polygamy,” he said. Abdul-Jalil is known for his piety.

He also remarked cryptically, “We will not abolish any law.”

Still, some women here saw the collective remarks of the chairman of the Transitional National Council as a menacing sign that the new Libya would mean new repression. Human-rights lawyers also viewed the comments as a clearly aimed swipe at the Gadhafi law on marriage, as did a scholar of Islamic law at the University of Tripoli.

Libya experts abroad saw the leader’s foray as a political effort aimed at placating newly influential Islamists.

“He and the other leaders are not quite certain which way this is going to turn,” said Dirk J. Vandewalle, an associate professor of government at Dartmouth College. “They are hedging their bets. The worrisome thing is he mentioned these things, which take him outside the mainstream.”

Abroad, the reaction was one of dismay among allies whose military firepower ensured Gadhafi’s fall. The French foreign minister, Alain Juppe, said: “This is a problem for us, especially in regard to respect for the dignity of women.” He later was forced to defend the government’s championing of Libya’s rebels against critics in the National Assembly.

And among young women at the university in Tripoli, the sentiment was overwhelmingly negative, even for those more tightly wrapped in head scarves than the others, who agreed with Abdul-Jalil that Shariah should be the basis for the country’s as-yet unwritten new constitution.

Women here played an important role in the uprising, yet signs of their traditional status – they stand separately from men at rallies, and an overwhelming majority wear head scarves – persist after the revolution.

“To follow Islamic rules is a good thing. To have many wives is not a good thing,” said a 24-year-old biology student, Awatif Alhjagi.

“I’m worried. People that did not have that right before may now get four wives,” she said. “Because he talked about it, they probably will do it now.”

There was disquiet that Abdul-Jalil had zeroed in on the marriage issue in a relatively brief speech. Unprompted, the young women circulating in a university courtyard angrily brought up his comments.

“All the girls are mad that he said that,” said Bushra ben Omran, a 20-year-old English student. “I don’t want to marry somebody who is already married.”

“He should not have said this in his speech,” Omran added. “He didn’t focus on all the injured people” from the revolution, she said. “I didn’t expect this.”

Rehab Zehany, 20, who said Abdul-Jalil was merely following the dictates of the Quran, added, when asked if she would accept her husband taking a second wife: “Of course not! I would kill him!”

Unlike in its African Muslim neighbors to the south, where multiple-wife family compounds are frequently seen, polygamy has hardly been part of the essential fabric of daily life here. Under Gadhafi, there was a notion that polygamous marriages were the exception, said Azza Kamel Maghur, a lawyer here. Apart from the wife’s consent – delivered in front of a judge – a man had to give reasons for taking another wife.

Like other women here, Maghur, whose father was briefly foreign minister under Gadhafi, was sharply critical of the country’s temporary leader for proposing fundamental changes during a period of transition.

“Women gained rights in the 1970s,” she said. “We don’t want to lose them.” Abdul-Jalil had gone beyond his limited brief, she said: “You can’t change the law related to interest or family law. No, no, no!”

In Benghazi on Friday, several hundred men staged a demonstration in support Abdul-Jalil and demanded that his prescriptions be carried out.

At the very least, the leader opened up the subject for debate, female activists here said – even if they are wary of the direction in which Abdul-Jalil appears to be pointing the country.

“He’s saying, a marriage of four women,” said Hana el-Galal, a leading human rights lawyer. “But a marriage of four, there isn’t an open license for that. To just make it an open license, to talk about these topics in such a manner, it’s very disappointing,” she said. She added, “It would have been a better priority to talk about elections.”

Mansour O. El-Kikhia, chairman of the department of political science and geography at the University of Texas at San Antonio, said Abdul-Jalil’s speech demonstrated the interim leadership’s “inexperience and amateurism,” adding that he had “done a disservice to females.”

That was the view among women – though not some men – at the university in Tripoli. “I’m meeting people who say, ‘Now I can marry three, four wives.’ This is totally wrong,” said Najah al-Tabeb, a 37-year-old psychology instructor. “Men can never treat women equally,” she said, smiling and shaking her finger when asked if she would marry a man who was already married.

Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei underlined the western nations' growing tendency for Islam and Islamic values, and said that the US and European nations are disappointed with the capitalist system.

"Today the Islamic Republic's words about the unfruitfulness of the Marxist system have been proved and the same thing is happening to the capitalist system," Ayatollah Khamenei said, addressing Sunni and Shiite clerics, theology students and teachers and jurisprudents in the Western Kermanshah province Wednesday night.

He also stressed the rising tides of Islamism in the world, and called on Islamic scholars to double their efforts to illuminate the concepts and values of Islam to the world people.

The Supreme Leader said that the Occupy Wall Street movement will bring down capitalism in America, underlining that the US administration could crack down, but would not be able to stop the movement.

TEHRAN — The West is trying but failing to instil "Iranophobia," Iran's supreme leader said Thursday in remarks that appeared to be prompted by, but did not directly address, US allegations of a thwarted Tehran-sponsored assassination plot.

"The repeat of ineffective and stupid methods by hapless and distracted policymakers in the West (to spread) Iranophobia will again bear no result," Ayatollah Ali Khamenei said in an army base in the western city of Kermanshah, the official IRNA news agency reported.

"They will once again taste failure's bitterness," he said.

Khamenei added that Iran's arch-foe, the United States, was caught in a "quagmire" of its own creation because of its "wrong policies and performance."

The all-powerful leader did not explicitly respond to US allegations that Iranian government officials were behind a plot to kill the Saudi ambassador to Washington.

His remarks were made just before US President Barack Obama demanded accountability from the top levels of the Iranian government over the alleged plot.

In separate comments, the commander of Iran's elite Revolutionary Guards -- whose Quds Force special operations unit was implicated in the alleged plot -- said Western animosity towards the Islamic republic was only "natural" because of his country's achievements.

"Today Iran faces foreign and domestic enemies.... But these animosities are natural... because of the Islamic revolution's achievements in various fields," Major General Mohammad Ali Jafari said in the city of Khoramabad, Mehr news agency reported.

Like Khamenei, Ali Jafari did not directly address the US accusations levelled at Iran.

US officials on Tuesday said they had charged two Iranians, one of them a dual US citizen, with preparing to carry out a bomb attack on the Saudi envoy under a plan "conceived, sponsored and directed from Iran."

The US Justice Department accused the Revolutionary Guards' Quds Force of being involved based on testimony given by one of the Iranians who was in US custody.

The other Iranian, said to be a member of the Quds Force, was at large and believed to have left the United States, according to US authorities.

Occupy Wall Street Vancouver marches in support of Robin Hood tax

Roughly 300 Occupy Vancouver demonstrators marched through the downtown core Saturday afternoon as part of the global protests demanding that G20 leaders institute a Robin Hood tax on currency trading and speculative financial transactions.

Marchers called out for Prime Minister Stephen Harper to support the tax while meeting with other G20 leaders in France this week.

While marshalling at the Vancouver Art Gallery beforehand, demonstrators were given a short history of the tax and then briefly debated its merits and possibilities.

"The main proposal out there is for a tax of a fraction of a per cent... on transactions of stocks, on foreign exchange and financial derivatives," explained Canadian Union of Public Employees economist Toby Sanger to a cheering crowd. "There's $ 600 trillion worth of financial derivatives out there, the value of the global economy each year is $60 trillion.

"So, most of that is being used for speculation, and that was a big cause of the financial crisis that we've gone through."

Sanger added, "The idea is from a small tax like this - it could generate hundreds of billions of dollars."

He said taxes would be collected nationally and half the money would go directly to each national government. The other half would go into a fund built to combat poverty and climate change.

"The incentives here are all wrong--you screw up the economy so you get a big tax break? The rest of us have to pay for it twice over? That's not fair and it's not good economics," Sanger said to reporters after his speech. "This is an idea for a small tax on the financial sector--which is undertaxed compared to other sectors--and the revenue from it would go toward badly-needed human needs such as reducing poverty and fighting climate change."

The idea of the tax as a possible demand from the Occupy movement was first by Vancouver's Adbusters magazine, the same organization that proposed the Occupy Wall Street movement last summer.

Surrounded by roughly a dozen police, demonstrators marched down Georgia Street to the Central Library, then looped back west through the downtown core, blocking traffic in one direction.
"We have the same thing there, but this is the first time we've actually watched one," said Rick Thompson, a Los Angeles resident who watched the march from Granville Street while on holiday with his wife Marcella.

Thompson, 58, said he supported a flat tax on all corporate and individual income instead of a Robin Hood tax, but believed the current economic system was "off-kilter."

"Everything changes eventually, even the Roman Empire didn't last that long," Thompson said.
As the marchers wound down Granville Street, yoga teacher Sandra Stephanson walked alongside with an H & M shopping bag.

"I think you just have to give to the people around us every day, it's not just about relying on governments to make the decisions we want," Stephanson said. "I find Vancouver a beautiful city but I also find it very apathetic about decency."

"To be close to each other, this is caring - more than taxes - and in the end, that's what's going to save us."

Similar marches occurred in dozens of cities around North America, with about 1,000 taking to the streets of San Francisco.

Occupy Vancouver has declared Sunday as family day at the Vancouver Art Gallery. According to a news release, the group says it will create a "Kidzone" at its protest base, with unicyclists, clowns, hoola-hoopers, sparklers, face-painting and puppet-making.

Some are also planning to march to the Holy Rosary Cathedral on Richards Street. Occupy Vancouver organizers have stated they intend to occupy the cathedral from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Sunday. VPD said in a news release, they will have additional resources in place to monitor anything that develops.

Corporations are greedy by definition. Government should not be.

I get excited seeing the OWS movement grow. But why is so much of the focus on corporations, and not on the federal government? By definition, a corporations sole purpose is to turn a profit for their shareholders.To hold corporations accountable is like saying you are angry at water because you don't want water to be wet. Corporations wouldn't exist without greed.

Government sets laws and rules for corporation to function within, and in the past decade, both republicans and democrats have removed critical laws that created the financial mess we are in. An example is the Glass-Steagall act, which had kept investment banks and commercial banks separate. The government made a big mistake by removing Glass-Steagall, and to this day has not corrected the problem.

Does anyone agree with me that much of OWS efforts are misguided?

The cold weather proved too much from some protesters. Medical staff at Zuccotti Park said that three people went to the hospital with cold-related ailments.

Some other diehard Wall Street haters spent the snow day protesting alleged civil-rights violations at City Hall and the rash of foreclosures in Jamaica, Queens.

I hear OWS being compared to the Tea Party movement. The Tea Party lawfully affected mass change by voting out 82 elected officials in the last election. That event will go down in the history books. This rabble called OWS are raping their own. Unbelievable.

SB 783 says a 30-day notice must be given to a business who is violating a procedural requirement of California's civil rights and/or the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) in state-owned facilities. This is not saying businesses cannot be sued. They can be sued. It's just giving them time to fix the problem before lawyers have to get involved. Currently, a business can be hit with a lawsuit for not being in compliance with one of the 1000's of ADA laws, and the business owner must pay legal fees without an opportunity to address the problem. Lawyers do not want this to pass because they make so much money from it. Why choose to answer questions on hot button issues that are not relevant to America's most dire situation? What does abortion have to do with fixing our country at the most basic level? How will it help the economy to let American's know you believe being gay is a choice?

Tell the 'journalists' you don't want to focus on abortion during this interview, because there are much bigger issues facing America. Worrying about social issues such as abortion is like sitting in a movie theater, worrying about the plot of the movie. Yesterday I was sitting in my car eating a Subway, listening to the news, when I heard:

"Five French Moroccan foreign nationals in Texas were caught breaking into a courthouse as some kind of prank. They had been drinking at local bars, and thought it would be funny to break into a local courthouse."

Why would I care about five drunk guys in Texas? I found it very strange that the Associated Press would have this story on their wire. I never heard another peep about the story, until later that day.

Documents were found inside their van showing the men, all in their 20s, had traveled extensively to high-level security facilities around the country. Investigators told the Associated Press that 90-day visas, maps, cell phones and computers were found inside the vehicle.

Sources told ABC News that three of the men appear to be of Moroccan Muslim descent and are apparently not cooperating with investigators and are refusing to answer questions, sources told ABC News.

The men told authorities they broke into the courthouse to get a scenic view of San Antonio, but investigators said the circumstances surrounding the break-in are suspicious.

Investigators said the men, all in their early 20s, are not U.S. citizens and told investigators they came into the country on Sept. 11, but it wasn’t clear what year they entered the country. Investigators also determined two of the men are on the FBI’s watch list. Their names have not been released.

Can you truly stomach this? That the AP (Associated Press) would put this story out as a bunch of drunk guys pulling a prank? Come on. Why is the American news media covering up that these guys were terrorists? The public has a right to know. Hopefully there's a journalist out there who has the gonads to follow through with this critical news story.

Attorney General Eric Holder hiding facts on Fast & Furious

Republican Rep. Darrell Issa, chairman of the Oversight & Government Reform Committee, suggested Sunday that Attorney General Eric Holder has been withholding facts regarding the so-called "Fast & Furious" gunwalking scandal, and indicated that law enforcement could be concealing possibly illuminating evidence.

Issa, in an appearance on CBS' "Face the Nation," appeared skeptical that Holder had known as little about the "Fast & Furious" operation as he indicated in a May 3 Judiciary Committee hearing, when he said, "I'm not sure of the exact date, but I probably heard about Fast & Furious for the first time over the last few weeks."

Issa disputed that timing, and said Holder "clearly knew more than he said when he said he only first heard of this program a few weeks before.

"His chief of staff had intimate details; we have notes in his handwriting that shows that the number two and Eric Holder's right hand had intimate details for long time," Issa told CBS' Bob Schieffer. "One of the questions is, why wouldn't you tell your boss about a program that had gotten so out-of-control that it had all kinds of people scurrying to try to stop it?"

CBS News investigative correspondent Sharyl Attkisson first reported on the case in February, when she learned that an operation called "Project Gunrunner" being run by the Federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms (ATF) had resulted in agents letting thousands of guns "walk" into the hands of suspected traffickers for Mexican drug cartels. While the operation aimed to take down a major cartel, two of those weapons turned up at the murder of Border Patrol Agent Brian Terry last December.
Documents obtained by CBS News earlier this month indicate, too, that Holder had been briefed on "Fast & Furious" as far back as July 2010.

Issa said he believes there may have been another gun found at the scene of Terry's death - a weapon he dubbed "weapon number one" - and that if that gun exists and is proven to be the murder weapon, it would conclusively tie "Fast and Furious" to the murder.

"If weapon number one [which] appears to be missing were ballistically matched, we would have an absolute rather than the inconsistency," he said.
When asked directly if he were suggesting that the FBI may had tampered with evidence at the crime scene, Issa equivocated.

"We're not suggesting that, but when you have tickets [labeling the weapons found at the scene] that are numbered 2 and 3 and there's no ticket 1... When agents who were at Brian Terry's funeral made statements to his mother indicating that there were three weapons, when the two weapons that they have tested don't conclusively match up, then you look and say, 'Well, was there a third weapon at the scene? Were there additional people who escaped with weapons?' The Terry family has suffered a great deal."

"It doesn't seem like the answers are coming," he said.
The FBI has stated that reports of the recovery of a third gun at the Brian Terry murder scene are false, and that concealment of evidence does not serve justice or advance the mission to which this agency is committed.

Attkinson, who also appeared on "Face the Nation," pointed out that one reason evidence might be withheld is if it were "matched to a confidential informant that was being used by DEA or FBI or another agency."

"There are a lot of questions out there because other agencies were involved in this operation," she said.
Issa pledged to "get to the bottom of the problem," and has subpoenaed hundreds, if not thousands, of pages' worth of documents from the Justice Department as part of his investigation. He complained that many of the documents he has received so far have been heavily redacted or blacked out entirely - and suggested that there was reason to believe not all of the documents were "authentic."
"I have countless pages that look like this," Issa told Schieffer, holding up a document that appeared to be almost completely blacked out. "There's clearly details that have been redacted that we should have. Our subpoenas have been very narrow. In some cases it's because a whistleblower gives us a document... We have a document. It causes us to narrowly ask for a document - to get the same document but ensure it's authentic."

Again Issa declined to say, when asked, that he thought some of the documents have been tampered with. But he argued the redactions in and of themselves qualified as "tampering."
"When you black out a document and there is responsive information underneath, that's a form of tampering," he said. "We're not accusing anyone of a criminal cover-up. But we have an obligation, a real obligation to the Terry family and a real obligation to the Constitution, to follow this to ensure that Justice Department ... and all of its tentacles in law enforcement do the kind of jobs that witnesses who came from there said they want to do and always do."

As to whether or not he thought Holder should resign, Issa said, "that's for the president to decide."

Google search to have default encryption

Google is rolling out over the next weeks default encryption using SSL on searches for users signing in with their accounts, the company said Tuesday.

The move comes over a year after Google made SSL the default setting for Gmail, and also introduced an encrypted search service.

"As search becomes an increasingly customized experience, we recognize the growing importance of protecting the personalized search results we deliver," Google's product manager, Evelyn Kao said in a blog post on Tuesday.

The encryption is expected to be particularly useful for people using an unsecured Internet connection, such as a Wi-Fi hotspot in an Internet caf, Kao added.

With Google search over SSL, users get an end-to-end encrypted search channel between their computer and Google. The secured channel helps protect search terms and search results pages from being intercepted by a third party, Google said in a description of SSL search.

Over the next few weeks, users will be redirected to a secure search site when they are signed in with their Google Account. The change encrypts search queries and Google's results page.
Users can also navigate directly to the secure search site if they are signed out or don't have a Google Account.

Websites visited from organic search listings will still know that the user came from Google, but will not get information about each individual query, Google said. Obama sending 100 troops to war with Lords Resistance Army in Africa

Obama is dropping 100 US troops in unfamiliar territory against an entrenched army of 3000 who have been fighting operationally since 1987, and they are religious fanatics to boot. This is a recipe for disaster.

According to Wikipedia, Lords Resistance Army LRA was formed in 1987 and until about 2007 it was engaged in an armed rebellion against the Ugandan government. It is led by Joseph Kony, who proclaims himself the "spokesperson" of God and a spirit medium, primarily of the Holy Spirit, which the group believe can represent itself in many manifestations.

Putting a single boot on the ground is considered a military action. If the enemy has an army of 3000, why did Obama choose to send 100 troops? Why not send 1000 troops, wipe the villages clean of this rabble, and be done with it? 100 troops is just enough to make sure the world believes we are instigating a military action, but not enough to win. I am all for stopping this group of degenerates, but sending such a small fighting force is not the way to do it. What does Obama expect will happen? Does Obama want our fighting force to lose?

The event was opened by Malik Zulu Shabazz, Chairman of the New Black Panther Party, a militant hate group that supported Barack Obama in the 2008 election and sent armed thugs to intimidate voters at several polling places in 2008 and 2010. (On Monday, Andrew Breitbart revealed that Obama and other Democrats shared a podium with Shabazz and the New Black Panthers at a march in Selma, AL in March 2007.)

The Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) summit held in Kazakhstan’s capital, Astana, on June 15, marked a further consolidation of an emerging bloc led by China and Russia that could potentially rival the US and its European allies. As well as the other SCO members—the Central Asian states of Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan—Iran, India, Pakistan and Mongolia attended as observers; Belarus and Sri Lanka as dialogue partners; and Afghanistan as an invitee.
Russia and China used the forum to challenge Washington on a range of issues. Of particular concern to both Moscow and Beijing are US plans for anti-ballistic missile systems based in Europe and Asia. While nominally directed at so-called rogue states such as North Korea and Iran, the anti-missile systems would undermine the effectiveness of Chinese and Russian nuclear missiles, especially in the event of a first strike by the US.

A joint declaration’s denunciation of “unilateral and unlimited build-up of missile defence” was an obvious reference to the US plans. Speaking to reporters, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said the criticism was directed not only at the proposed US anti-missile shield in Europe, but “the global missile defence system being set up by the United States, which also covers East and South Asia.”

The SCO also provided a platform for Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad to condemn the current US-led world order “managed and run by slavers and colonisers of the past.” He told SCO members: “I believe together we can reform the way the world is managed. We can restore the tranquillity of the world.”

Iran is one of four countries that have SCO observer status, but significantly the body has rejected its application for full membership on the grounds that countries under international sanctions cannot be members. Russia and China have significant interests in Iran, but both countries have been seeking to avoid a direct confrontation with the US over Iran’s nuclear program and have voted for UN sanctions resolutions against Tehran.

At a meeting last Thursday following the SCO summit, Russian President Dmitry Medvedev and Chinese President Hu Jintao voiced their common concern about the NATO bombing of Libya. Their joint statement called for a halt to “wilful interpretation and expanded application” by the US and NATO of UN resolutions 1970 and 1973 to justify their efforts to oust the Gaddafi regime.

Not wanting an open diplomatic row with Washington, both Russia and China abstained on the UN resolutions, which accepted the lie that the bombing was necessary to protect Libyan civilians. Having declined to exercise their UN Security Council veto powers to block the resolutions, Beijing and Moscow are now concerned that the ousting of Gaddafi will undermine billions of dollars in contracts signed with Tripoli. Moreover, the joint statement expressed a fear of further US interventions, declaring that “outside forces should not interfere in internal processes in the countries of the region.”

The SCO summit also called for a “neutral” Afghanistan, in opposition to US efforts to establish permanent military bases in the country as part of any winding back of US and foreign troop numbers in the country. Significantly, Afghan President Hamid Karzai was present in Astana, indicating the existence of disagreements with Washington over the terms of any continued US military occupation. Afghanistan has applied for, but not yet been granted, SCO observer status.

Russian opposition to ongoing US bases was voiced in a foreign ministry statement in February, which declared: “Why will US military bases be needed if the terrorist threat in ... Afghanistan is ended? ... How will Afghanistan’s neighbours view the deployment of a foreign country’s military bases near their territory?” The US has no intention of quitting Afghanistan, however. Washington plans to maintain its large military bases as part of its efforts to dominate South and Central Asia.

The conflict over Afghanistan underlines the reasons for the formation of the SCO a decade ago. At the time, Moscow and Beijing were concerned at US efforts to establish a strategic and economic presence in Central Asia—a region that both countries regard as their backyard. Those fears only escalated after the US occupation of Afghanistan in late 2001 and the establishment of US military bases in several Central Asian states.

China and Russia used rising concerns among their Central Asian partners over US-sponsored “colour revolutions” in former Soviet republics to issue a SCO communiqué in 2005 calling for a US timetable to withdraw from its Central Asian military bases. In the same year, Uzbekistan, under pressure from Beijing and Moscow, ordered the US out of an air base in that country.

In 2009, Kyrgystan President Kurmanbek Bakiyev ordered the shutting of an American base used to transport supplies for Afghanistan, only to reverse the decision under the US pressure. The base was a major issue in political unrest last year that led to the ousting of Bakiyev and the installation of a regime more sympathetic to Moscow and Beijing.

The SCO has repeatedly denied that it aspires to become a military alliance or a “NATO of the East.” Nevertheless, the past decade has witnessed growing security ties between its member states. Since 2003, the SCO has held a series of joint military exercises, dominated by Chinese and Russian forces. The military chiefs of SCO members met in Shanghai in April for what is planned to be a regular forum to boost defence and security cooperation.

China’s rise as an economic power has given it considerable clout within the SCO. Over the past decade, China’s trade with SCO members has soared from $US12 billion to about $90 billion, of which $60 billion is with Russia. As a major energy consumer, China’s interests are bound up with establishing the infrastructure and agreements necessary to guarantee access to Central Asian oil and gas. That has become a bone of contention with Russia, which is seeking to maximise its energy prices.

While Russia and China have mutual interests in keeping the US out of Central Asia, their underlying rivalry for influence in the region remains. Moscow has supported India’s bid for full SCO membership as a means of countering growing Chinese influence, while Beijing has encouraged the efforts of its close South Asian partner, Pakistan, to likewise apply for membership.

While India has longstanding relations with Russia, China regards India as a regional rival and a competitor for Central Asian energy supplies. Indian foreign minister S.M. Krishna lauded SCO’s “constructive and forward looking role” in Afghanistan and expressed his hope that India’s SCO membership would encourage trade ties between Central and South Asia.

Although neither country was accepted as a SCO member, the summit set out a framework for Pakistan and India to join. Despite their manoeuvring for influence within the SCO, both Beijing and Moscow are concerned at the implications of drawing the two South Asian rivals—which have fought three wars against each other since 1948—into the organisation. An added fear is that the two countries, rather than drawing away from the US, might become stalking horses for Washington inside the SCO.

Ten years after the SCO’s formation, the 2011 summit is another sign that the eruption of US militarism in Afghanistan, Iraq and now Libya has immensely heightened global tensions that are leading to great-power conflict.

Obama Gives $737 Million Dollar Loan To Solar Company Connected To Nancy Pelosi’s Brother In Law

SolarReserve is partnered with a company called PCG – Pacific Corporate Group… Well, Nancy Pelosi’s brother-in-law happens to be the number two man at PCG. Obama is spending $737 million to create 45 permanent jobs.

The Energy Department announced Wednesday that is has finalized a $737 million loan guarantee for a Nevada solar project. The decision comes several weeks after a California-based solar manufacturer that received a $535 million loan guarantee from the Obama administration in 2009 filed for bankruptcy and laid off 1,100 workers, setting off a firestorm in Washington.

The $737 million loan guarantee will help finance construction of the Crescent Dunes Solar Energy Project, a 110-megawatt solar-power-generating facility in Nye County, Nev. The project is sponsored by Tonopah Solar, a subsidiary of California-based SolarReserve. Crescent Dunes is the latest solar project to receive a loan guarantee from the Energy Department in recent weeks.

The department announced a $1.2 billion loan guarantee to Abengoa Solar for a solar generation project in California and a $150 million loan guarantee to 1366 Technologies for a Massachusetts solar manufacturing project earlier this month. The Energy Department says the project will result in 600 construction jobs and 45 permanent jobs.

2010 memo proving Eric Holder committed perjury

New documents obtained by CBS News show Attorney General Eric Holder was sent briefings on the controversial Fast and Furious operation as far back as July 2010. That directly contradicts his statement to Congress. Read the July 5, 2010 memo here.

On May 3, 2011, Holder told a Judiciary Committee hearing, "I'm not sure of the exact date, but I probably heard about Fast and Furious for the first time over the last few weeks."

Yet internal Justice Department documents show that at least ten months before that hearing, Holder began receiving frequent memos discussing Fast and Furious.

I am really hung up on the Occupy Wall Street protestors. A part of me loves seeing my fellow American's in the street, fighting back through these protests, as they are relatively peaceful, but with an edge.

However, I have been very critical of them, as I have not identified with their vague liberal messages. From global warming to a free paycheck for every American. That's ridiculous. Why not ask for your own private beach. It's impossible. I have been enraged at the stupidity of these protestors, until I witnessed this video from the official Anonymous YouTube channel; TheAnonMessage.

It asks the Occupy Wall Street protestors to get behind a singular message, which is to "Take the money out of government." I love this message! The Tea Party loves this message! Of course not all money can be taken from politics. The very idea is a catch 22. Money and power share the same properties. Where there is decision making power, there is money. Despite this fact, I believe this message has the ability to break partisanship and be transferable to all Americans. It's a simple concept that makes sense.

The Tea Party was born within the hearts of millions of American's who felt compelled to take action against corruption, government as well as corporate. A clear message to limit government, bring fiscal responsibility to our government and more closely follow the Constitution.

Adbusters motto is Culture Jam Headquarters. I remember stumbling on Adbuster's in my infinite quest for fresh 1's and 0's.

Solyndra Execs Stonewall On Financial Info

Top executives at Solyndra have refused to tell U.S. officials whether they received executive bonuses after the company began to fail, and they have frustrated bankruptcy proceedings by refusing to answer questions about the solar firm's sudden and dramatic shutdown, according to papers filed by Justice Department lawyers late Friday.
A Solyndra attorney told U.S. officials the reason he would not identify the company's customers or talk about its contracts was because "the topic would likely be the subject of investigation and possibly litigation," according to the court filing.

Major General Robert Scales report 18,000 Mexican cartels are in Texas

Retired Army Generals Barry McCaffrey and Robert Scales recently released their assessment regarding the status of Mexican Drug Cartel activity along the US/Mexican border. The four-month long non-partisan study was sponsored by the “Texas Departments of Agriculture and Public Safety”.

According to two media sources cited below, their [General’s] basic assumptions were that the US Federal government is in “deep denial” regarding the threat of instability the cartels pose to US national security. The threat, in their assessment, continues to move their “battlefield” north.

According to McCaffrey, "We're going to have a shameful incident on the U.S./Mexico border in the coming years if we don't amp up security on the frontier. It's coming” .

Of note, General McCaffrey stated that more people have been killed in the US than has been recorded, an observation he noted was not recorded in US statistics. The source of the information was a Texas rancher, but the targets of the murders were illegal aliens and the murders were higher than Texas Department of Public Safety statistics as the 22 became hundreds. Ergo, McCaffrey implied the official federal statistics are not accurate, and the cartels are operating more freely across the US borders than originally believed.
One of the media sources below interviewed another respected Cartel analyst, Sylvia Longmire, whom the source article seem to imply she offered a counterpoint to McCaffrey’s assessment by saying "It's not in the cartels' best interest to draw attention to themselves" because it disrupts the goal of the cartels. Longmire is not the only person to question the assessment there are others as well which are noted within the last source below.
My comment is this, while I do agree with Longmire with respect to the current situation, I think we need to consider the long-term ramifications of such actions if they are not monitored and disrupted. Because if the issue is not disrupted, the United States WILL have a problem where portions of the border may become ungovernable. We’ve a bad economy and people are looking at alternatives to making money to survive, drug trafficking is one means, people smuggling is another, wittingly/unwittingly smuggling terrorists and/or nefarious actors wishing to subvert US interests are another.
Failing to take aggressive and appropriate diplomatic, security, economic and informational measures is exactly why the drug war in Mexico that began in the 1980s reached its current state and only continues to worsen as of today. Mexico is not a cohesive nation, it’s a Frankenstein hybrid made of some some non-corrupt entities and states combined with fiefdoms.

Last, General McCaffrey warned the current and previous administrations about the growing cartel problem that is now reaching thermal runaway. I read another news article saying that the Obama administration is suing nearly every state that has increased their crackdown on illegal immigrants. The Obama administration has been more hostile to states rights than any previous administration.

I was a sophomore in college attending California State. It was 8:30am, I was rushing around my 1 bedroom loft, preparing for my 9am class, when my phone rang. It was my older brother, he sounded distressed.
"What's wrong?"
"Turn on the TV."
I will never forget the image. The blue sky, the gray buildings with dark smoke billowing out of them. I stared at the TV, both of us silent, not knowing what to say. Watching the poor people leap from windows to avoid burning alive. An indescribable feeling. The next few days, time stopped. My world was at a stand still, nobody, not my room mates, professors, friends, family, nobody wanted to enjoy anything.

We pray for the men and woman who perished that day. For the family members and friends who continue on with holes in their hearts. For the brave service members who lost their lives. Thank you.

Florida governor signs welfare drug-screen measure

The story is below. But the real story to me is why these 5 democrats really want to keep this from happening. They cite it's a violation of their constitutional rights, but these 5 sewer rats are fine with a six year old girl being felt up by the TSA. The 5 pieces of human debris are:

What is their motive to talk negatively on a law that make so much sense? Why are they all banded together on this? Their argument doesn't make sense. What is the common thread between all of them?

The Story:
Saying it is "unfair for Florida taxpayers to subsidize drug addiction," Gov. Rick Scott on Tuesday signed legislation requiring adults applying for welfare assistance to undergo drug screening.
"It's the right thing for taxpayers," Scott said after signing the measure. "It's the right thing for citizens of this state that need public assistance. We don't want to waste tax dollars. And also, we want to give people an incentive to not use drugs."
Under the law, which takes effect on July 1, the Florida Department of Children and Family Services will be required to conduct the drug tests on adults applying to the federal Temporary Assistance for Needy Families program. The aid recipients would be responsible for the cost of the screening, which they would recoup in their assistance if they qualify. Those who fail the required drug testing may designate another individual to receive the benefits on behalf of their children.

Shortly after the bill was signed, five Democrats from the state's congressional delegation issued a joint statement attacking the legislation, one calling it "downright unconstitutional."
"Governor Scott's new drug testing law is not only an affront to families in need and detrimental to our nation's ongoing economic recovery, it is downright unconstitutional," said Rep. Alcee Hastings. "If Governor Scott wants to drug test recipients of TANF benefits, where does he draw the line? Are families receiving Medicaid, state emergency relief, or educational grants and loans next?"
Rep. Corrine Brown said the tests "represent an extreme and illegal invasion of personal privacy."
"Indeed, investigating people when there is probable cause to suspect they are abusing drugs is one thing," Brown said in the joint statement. "But these tests amount to strip searching our state's most vulnerable residents merely because they rely on the government for financial support during these difficult economic times."
Joining in the statement denouncing the measure were Democratic Reps. Kathy Castor, Ted Deutch and Frederica Wilson.
Controversy over the measure was heightened by Scott's past association with a company he co-founded that operates walk-in urgent care clinics in Florida and counts drug screening among the services it provides.

Taxpayer Dollars Still Bailing Out Banks

Covered from head to toes, Michael Savage enforces his eccentric mind by claiming to tell the truth about his life stories while covering his hair, eyes, and even his body posture.

Though Mr. Savage constantly whines and dines on being persecuted as a white male with blue eyes who has been denied professorship and many other opportunities by virtue of the equal opportunity laws that favor people with color, Mr. Savage could not display his real complexion in his book cover, except of hip outfit covering a creepy old man.

Never believed in sport and bashes those who entertain viewing the broadcasting of the Olympic Games, the author compensates for his lack of athleticism by appearing in very sports-like outfit. How would such mindset fit with psychological nudity?

Though he entertains calling himself Doctor Savage, a man with center to his personality, Mr. Savage could not come to grips with the reality of his lost cause. Neither the Israeli Jews come to his support when he runs into troubles, as he constantly does, nor the moderate Jews admire his nonsense, which he could not conceal. Even the Right wing punch resents his erotic demeanor.

The stories of the book have been repeated and told over his Radio show and portray a rich and diverse life, except that Michael's psychology is bleak and grim. A person other than Mr. Savage would have grown up appreciative of the hard labor and contribution of immigrants and poor and less fortunate folks. Yet, Savage's only God is money and self.

Indeed, the book presents the complex psychology of its author in plenary view. Savage predicted the downfall of McCain's choice of Sarah Palin from day one. Yet, soon he abandoned his genuine and prophetic prediction for the sake of expedience. He kept claiming that he would vote for the creepy old man McCain then he retracts by claiming that he could not remember.

From accusing all those disagreeing with his eccentric views as having mental disorder, to claiming to expose the plain psychology of his life encounters, Mr. Savage persevered on his own odd psychology, as an angry, impulsive, and antisocial figure.

Under Islam, all Muslims are required to fight the jihad or support those who do. And, Jihad isn't only by the sword. There is jihad by the pen, by the mouth, by money, etc. Mohamed often fights jihad by the pen.

The original Mohammed was a warlord responsible for the deaths of 270 million people in the past 1400 years. The Hadith and Koran is filled with suras that mandate death, enslavement, rape, and/or dhimmitude to all those who are not Muslim. And, unfortunately, these mandates are for all time until the entire world is under Islamic rule, or dar al Islam. Until this time, we are in the house of war, or dar al Harb.

The Old Testament also has violence, a lot. But, what differentiates this violence from the violence in the Koran is that the violence was limited towards a specific enemy at a specific time, in a specific place. The Koran's violence is mandated for all time, towards all non-Muslims, until the entire world is Islamic or under Islamic rule.

The New Testament brought Jesus who, for Christians, is the perfect example of one to emulate. If one follows the example of Jesus, one preaches and lives a life of love, tolerance, and peace. In Islam, the perfect example of a human being is Mohammad. If one follows the example of Mohammad, one lives a life full of jihad and commits what Judeo-Christian ethics would deem atrocities. Mohammad married at six, consummated at nine. So, this example of perfect humanity was a murderer, an enslaver, a rapist, a beheader, a warlord, a polygamist, a misogynist, and a pedophile.

The beauty in your article is rich, deep, and authentic.

1) You shied from stating your real name and opted to wage a faceless campaign of hate against Islam as a religion, instead of against those who use religion as an avenue to spell their sickness.

2) You brought a lot of comfort to the followers of Islam, those who believe that Islam gets stronger when its enemies were ignorant, its supporters were enlightened.

3) You evaded the entanglement of race and religion in Judaism and the Jewish belief that blood connection was the basis for becoming a genuine, authentic Jew.

4) You failed to explain how a 31-year old Jesus would have grown up and matured so soon to set an example and role model to millions of followers. Your failure to distinguish between the fiction and facts in Christianity undermines your reasoning.

5) You could not explain why Islam spread in America and other parts of the world faster and on greater scale than Judaism or Christianity. Black Muslims in America were not converted to Islam under the sword of Omar.

No right to resist illegal cop entry into home

INDIANAPOLIS | Overturning a common law dating back to the English Magna Carta of 1215, the Indiana Supreme Court ruled Thursday that Hoosiers have no right to resist unlawful police entry into their homes.
In a 3-2 decision, Justice Steven David writing for the court said if a police officer wants to enter a home for any reason or no reason at all, a homeowner cannot do anything to block the officer's entry.

Recent spending cuts actually increased federal spending by $3 Billion

It turns out the six-month spending bill Congress passed in April increased discretionary outlays through the remainder of the fiscal year by a bit over $3 billion. In other words, total direct spending will be higher by the end of September than if Congress had just set spending on autopilot for the remainder of the fiscal year back in April.

"Total discretionary outlays in 2011 will be $3.2 billion higher as a result of the legislation, CBO estimates--an increase of $7.5 billion for defense programs, partially offset by a net reduction of $4.4 billion in other spending," reads a just-released report from the Congressional Budget Office.

China won't be buying U.S. government debt anymore

China's Central Bank Chairman Zhou Xiaochuan told a Chinese monetary conference last week that “Foreign-exchange reserves have exceeded the reasonable level that our country actually needs,” which is essentially code for China won't be buying U.S. government debt any more. China's foreign currency reserves exceeded $3 trillion at the end of March, more than $1 trillion of which is U.S. government debt.

CA Governor Brown delays vehicle registration

Californians will be denied at the DMV if they go to pay their license renewal bill on time! Brown is telling us that it's okay to pay past due. In fact, he's forcing us to pay the bill late, so we pay the higher rate. This is extortion. How can he get away with this?

From 1980 to 2000, government aid was roughly constant at 12.5%. The sharp increase since then — especially since the start of 2008 — reflects several changes: the expansion of health care and federal programs generally, the aging population and lingering economic problems.

The article goes on to say "What's frightening is the Baby Boomers haven't really started to retire," says University of Michigan economist Donald Grimes of the 77 million people born from 1946 through 1964 whose oldest wave turns 65 this year. "That's when the cost of Medicare will start to explode."

Kansas passes law to require proof of citizenship to vote

American's need to show proof of ID to buy cigarettes, booze, drive a car, get on a plane; blah blah blah...just about anything important in life, you need to show proof of citizenship.

"The new Kansas law requires photo ID from all in-person voters at every election. People submitting mail-in ballots must include either a copy of their photo ID or the number from the photo ID card. The law also requires proof of citizenship – a birth certificate, for example — for new voters who register on or after Jan. 1, 2013."

Guess who doesn't like this law? The ACLU. They say this law is "a giant leap backwards." Their reasoning is that the new law offers free birth certificates only to Kansas-born residents, while residents born out-of-state “would bear the financial burden and trouble of contacting their home states to attain birth certificates” to meet the new law’s requirements.

Obama's National Labor Relations Board grounds Boeing in South Carolina

Obama says jobs jobs jobs everywhere he goes. Well Boeing answered the call by spending almost a Billion dollars on a new facility in South Carolina to help build their latest flagship, the 787 Dreamliner.

Boeing hired 1,000 workers in South Carolina. These 1,000 new workers voted not to become a part of the union. Obama's labor relations board decided that Boeing has violated the National Labor Relations Act by moving airline production from a union plant in Washington to a nonunion plant in South Carolina.

With no relief in sight for the dollar on any of those fronts, the downward pressure on the dollar is widely expected to continue.

The dollar fell nearly 1% against a broad basket of currencies this week, following a drop of similar size last week. The ICE U.S. Dollar Index closed at its lowest level since August 2008, before the financial crisis intensified.

Hundreds dead in Nigeria post-election violence

Nigeria, a nation of 150 million people, is roughly divided between the Christian-dominated south and the Muslim north. A dozen states across Nigeria's north have Islamic Shariah law in place, though the area remains under the control of secular state governments.

"More than 200 people have been killed and an estimated 40,000 others displaced in violence triggered by news of Goodluck Jonathan's victory in the Nigerian presidential election.

On Wednesday hundreds of men allegedly involved in the deadly violence were rounded up and taken to a police station in Kaduna in northern Nigeria."

In a nutshell, increase taxes, expand entitlements and drive this country off a cliff.

Obama's four-part plan for deficit reduction:

Cuts in nonsecurity discretionary spending, while still investing in energy innovation, education, and infrastructure. The level of his cuts would be consistent with the recommendations of his bipartisan fiscal commission, saving $770 billion from 2012 to 2023.

Cuts in security spending deeper than those in his 2012 budget. Projected savings by 2023 are $400 billion.

Cuts in spending on Medicare and Medicaid by making delivery of health services more efficient and cost-effective. Obama says he would slow the growth of Medicare by strengthening an independent commission of doctors, nurses, medical experts, and consumers, which recommends ways of reducing unnecessary spending. He also proposes to make Medicaid more “more flexible, efficient, and accountable.” Savings from both programs would add up to $500 billion by 2023, he says.

Reforming the tax code in a way that closes loopholes, limits deductions, and allows tax rates to go down. Limiting itemized deductions for the wealthiest 2 percent of Americans would reduce the deficit by $320 billion over 10 years, Obama says. All told, his plan projects revenue from changes to the tax code at $1 trillion.
