Hands-only CPR greatly increases survival odds

"Sudden cardiac arrest is a leading cause of death in the United States. Every day, it claims 900 American lives. Only about 6 percent of victims whose hearts stop outside of a hospital survive."
- The San Francisco Gate.

I currently do not know how to administer C.P.R. I've never had it as a job function, but I am going to be contacting my local Red Cross and taking a class for free (maybe a small fee), but it's well worth it.

How Many Guns Do American's Own?

According a 1994 Department of Justice survey, about 35% of American households own 192 million firearms. TAS received this information from Newsbatch, a gun control website.

We will edit this post as we find more current information regarding gun ownership in America.

Despite the negative slant that the website Newsbatch has toward gun ownership, personally I am happy that American's have so many guns. In countries who ban guns, guess who has
them all? The criminals. The scum who do not want to have their name attached to a gun in a government registry.

And remember to bring your 6-gun Pilgram. Quoted from the movie The Secret

Obama Locks Down Gitmo

Please click on the following link to read the entire article from The New York Times;

"Obama Orders Halt to Prosecutions at Guantánamo"
by The New York Times, Published: January 21, 2009

A
fter taking office, one of the first orders from the Obama Administration was an issue for an immediate stop to the current procedures regarding the holding of terrorist prisoners at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba.

We believe that this action will be proceeded by a World-wide appreciation and increase in his popularity.

A future course of action has not yet been established by the Obama Administration.

It will be interesting to watch how this situation unfolds. We hope that Obama does not release known terrorists for popularity sake, which we believe he is too smart to attempt that.

The Irony of Obama Repealing Affirmative Action

WARNING...This is a political, ethical and morally charged post;

Tomorrow is Inauguration Day for President Barrack Obama. We are asking the readers of T.A.S. to comment on whether you think that the African-American society are
provided more or less opportunities than other ethnicity's in America?

Now that America has an African American President, will it now be different for day to day African American's who use the 'race card' for various excuses? We are in no way saying that all, or even a large majority of African American's use the 'race card', but we have personally witnessed the use of it, and it simply perpetuates racism.
(PICTURE OF LAUREN HILL)

Is the excuse that a person is 'Black' or African American no longer the excuse that it was before we had a 'black' President? If you don't know what I'm talking about, or are angry that I'm proposing that some in the African American population use race as an excuse for having to live a harder life, commonly referred to as using the "race card", then you need to get out in society more.

As for the title of this blog, we thought that it captures the theme of this post well, even though as far as we have researched, the subject has not been approached.

Many of our friends, and even contributors to T.A.S. are African American, and are interested to read any comments or thoughts on this subject.

EDITED

After Obama's speech; We greatly enjoyed Obama's speech and hope that he can deliver on his promises.

One American Family's Survival Pack

Thanks to Sam Frederick, one of the contributing writers for T.A.S., currently finishing his Masters Program in English, for providing us a few ways that his family plans for disaster preparedness. A few of his ideas include:

1. Keeping documents & other contents in waterproof containers.

2. Emergency survival radio

3. Water (1/2 gallon per person, per day)

4. Shotgun (not required, but handy for self-defense)

These items are all very common sense, but if your reading this and you cannot point to these items in your home, then you are not prepared.

Their is so much involved with disaster planning, these are just a few ideas if you haven't started.

Reinforcing Your Home's Front Door

Thank's to SurvivalBlog.com (one of the survival blogs I follow) for having this content readily available regarding this link I found. It has tons of great information about reinforcing the front door to your home.

Employee's for Government Agencies (Firefighters, Police, etc...), as well as many thieves and scum out there could use this knowledge against you. Read this post for a brief breakdown of the article that you should really look at and study a bit.

Click here (Reinforce door Story) for the link on the entire story regarding the reinforcement of your front door. This story was put together by Fire Nuggets, a firefighter related website and group.

THE BASICS

For years, the mule kick has been the preferred way to make entry on the typical residential front door. Kicking in a door was the cool way to force entry. The problem with this technique is that if the locking mechanism was reinforced in any way, the “kicker” usually wore himself out trying to get thru the door, wasting time and energy. A better way is to use the adz (or flat part) of a halligan in the jamb of the door and push the door away from you, putting the adz in the door jamb and pulling the halligan away from the door jamb. The force created at the top of the halligan (where the adz and point meet) will force the door open (Photo 1).

SECURITY DOORS

Sometimes we encounter a security door in front of the front door. These doors do not pose a big problem, if you understand how to force them. Understanding how these doors are made and mounted will greatly improve your ability to force them. The idea of the security door is obvious. It provides an extra line of defense for the homeowner as well as providing a secure way to provide some ventilation. The flaw of these doors comes in the manufacturing as well as the installation. There are basically two types of security doors: lightweight and reinforced.

The lightweight door is the easier door to force compared to the reinforced door (Photo 2).

This reinforced door, because of the additional reinforcing bars above and below the door handle, is not flexible and thus presents a more difficult forcible entry problem. It is important to recognize which door is which as soon as possible, since the reinforced door requires the use of the irons to force it (Photo 3).

Please everybody, please be prepared, wherever you live!

Read the Oldest Posts First, Understand This Blogs Origins...

MOVED UP FROM MANY PREVIOUS POSTS:

One crappy formatting aspect most blogs share is that the original content of the blogs are hardly ever seen.

Please read some of the OLDER posts first. You will see why this blog started in the first place, and the severe situation that humans are in.

In a nutshell, farming (food production) is now based on technology, which uses oil. As we all know, oil is a resource that will run out, therefore...World-Wide Famine.(click for link) You don't have to believe me, just read the first posts...

Watching Charlie Rose Interviewing Michigan Spokesman Mitch Albom

Watching Charlie Rose interview Michigan spokesman Mitch Albom. Albom is a talk show host on T.V. & radio in Michigan. Right now he is speaking out to the rest of America regarding Michigan, and the hardships that Michigan is facing right now.

Albom goes on to speak of how Michigan (with the big 3 Auto Industries) has been the 1st out of all of the 50 states to become affected by the depression we are in. Albom says that the one great thing about the American auto industry is that the final product is tangible. It's not just service or finance, that the end product is that America makes a tangible item. Albom is afraid for America, as am I, that outsourcing all of our jobs and not making things is going to catch up to us, if it hasn't already.

Do You Think This Family Is Prepared?

I'd say that the family who lives in this home considers themselves prepared! WOW ;)

Please visit the Survivalblog website for this story about an amazing dwelling. Here's a bit of the story:

Strategically located in the awesome San Juan mountains of Southwest Colorado, this patented steel-reinforced concrete earth home was built to withstand almost any natural or man-made disaster you can name.

Apparently it's on the market for around $450,000.

Nicely done!

The Palestinian's & the Israeli's Will Never Stop Fighting

Having a California Bachelor of Arts in Communication, I studied my share of the Palestine & Israeli conflicts.

As far as I know, to put it bluntly, at the end of WWII, the Allies had millions of homeless Jewish people that they needed to find a place for. So the Allies forced the Palenstinian's to move from their beautiful homes with beach front access, into the middle of the desert!!! The Palestinian's were forced to give up their land to the Israeli's.

The fight will never end until the Palenstine's are given back their land. The Allies chose the wrong group of people to displace. It's too bad.

SUHEIR HAMMAD (Poet), who hails from Brooklyn, has been called "a new voice with an authentic blend of language that's her own, and music that belongs to the streets" (Elmaz Abinader, author of Children of the Roojme). Suheir's appearance on the debut episode of HBO's "Russell Simmons Presents Def Poetry" merited generous media praise.

While working as a Server at The Palomare's Cafe in my hometown of Castro Valley, CA, three of my co-workers were Palestinian women working as Servers too. They are a proud, hardworking people. They spoke of Palestine often. I'm obviously generalizing, having only known a few of them, but it was interesting at how many languages they spoke, and their understandings of happenings around the World.

Please, if I have my history wrong, or if you would like to add any comments, please feel free to let me know that I'm wrong, or add to the conversation! We must remember though, that Israel is our strongest military ally in the Middle East, America cannot afford to lose Israel as a foothold in that region of the World.
